Ally
An ally is someone who, without self-interest and without being directly involved themselves, ensures that a person directly involved is not alone.
Allies come in many forms: the child who speaks at school about intersex, the politician who introduces a resolution on intersex rights, the organization that financially supports an intersex organization, the volunteer in an intersex organization who is not intersex himself, and so on.
Sometimes the dividing line between an ally and one directly involved cannot be firmly defined. This applies, for example, to parents who are fully committed to a happy future for their intersex child.
Instead of ally, a word such as helper, friend, supporter, or even comrade could also be used.
The word ally is not a synonym for stakeholder. Not all stakeholders are allies and not all allies are stakeholders.
